Stop Overdevelopment and Preserve the Traditional Character Of Delaware

While land use and zoning decisions are primarily the responsibility of county and municipal governments, the State Legislature does have the authority to influence development practices through state laws, regulations, and funding mechanisms.

Delaware is the sixth‑fastest growing state in the country by percent growth, according to United States Census Bureau statistics. New housing development in our area is increasing demands on local infrastructure and emergency services, and while local governments must submit a comprehensive growth plan to the state, provisions to expand public safety resources accordingly are not required. That can't continue.

Moreover, our long-standing way of life is being transformed in ways that don't always benefit us. While we must welcome newcomers, we must also ensure that everyone has the necessary space, resources, and opportunities that have always defined the place we call home.

As your State Senator, I will work to:
  • Mandate that local government growth plans required by the State must include provisions to expand infrastructure and public safety resources proportionately.
  • Require developers to contribute to infrastructure and public safety upgrades as a condition for state permits or funding.
  • Set stricter standards for development in environmentally sensitive and traditionally agricultural areas.
  • Introduce measures to increase transparency in the development approval process.
